Magnolia grandiflora - Southern magnolia

continental : Let’s water every 3-4 weeks, so that the substratum is always quite moist. If the temperatures are very harsh, during the winter, it isn’t necessary to water. Wet with 1-2 buckets of water.

alpine : We advise watering the the Magnolia grandiflora regularly, but not too often, keeping the soil damp, using 0-1 buckets of water; during this period of the year watering every 4-5 weeks could be enough.

mediterranean : The Magnolia grandiflora always asks for a slightly moist soil: therefore we should water often, about every 2-3 weeks, wetting the substratum deep down. Normally 2-3 buckets of water are used.

continental : These plants need, for a balanced development, to be grown in a sunny place.
We suggest, during the coldest months of the year, to grow these plants in a sheltered place, where the freezing is not too intense.

alpine : Plant which needs to be exposed to direct sunrays.
These plants can stand short frosts, but during the coldest months of the year we suggest covering them with a non-woven fabric, or move them to a cold greenhouse.

mediterranean : We advise locating these plants where they can be directly exposed to solar rays.
The Magnolia grandiflora can stand the cold, therefore it can be planted in full ground in the garden.

Fertilize Magnolia grandiflora : We should avoid fertilizing trees during the winter months; if we intend planting a tree during the winter let’s remember to enrich the soil with mature manure.

Pests Magnolia grandiflora : Towards the end of the winter it is advised to apply a fungicide treatment using products based on sulphur and copper, to discourage the development of the most common fungal parasites.
