continental : Let’s try to keep the ground fairly damp, watering every 2-3 weeks with 1-2 glasses of water; when the weather is very harsh and the temperatures are below zero, watering can be interrupted.

alpine : Every 3-4 weeks water the soil, trying to wet it deeply; keep the ground constantly moist, although we must avoid water stagnations. Usually 0-1 glasses of water are used.

In the winter it’s best to move these plants in the apartment, as they need minimum temperatures above 12-15°C.

Fertilization Opuntia grandis : During the cold months of the year we recommend suspending the fertilization of the succulent plants, to avoid them from producing too many “new” tissues, which resist the cold weather very little and are easily attacked by fungal diseases, which develop more easily during the plants’ resting period.

Treatments Opuntia grandis : Towards the end of the winter, when the days tend to become longer and warmer, we suggest applying a treatment with mineral oil, against cochineals.
